About Ann

Ann Edwards is an Accredited Training Fellow of the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators. She’s also an IDA Dyslexia Therapist, a Certified Master Trainer with OG International, and a Licensed Reading Specialist. Ms. Edwards founded Edwards Orton-Gillingham in 2010 (formerly Literacy for Life) with the goal of providing quality training to teachers and dyslexia educators in New York City. Helping individuals learn to read has always been important to Ms. Edwards. The business is entirely women-owned and operated. With over 25 years of experience working with educators and students with language based struggles, she understands firsthand what it takes to help individuals to reach their full potential in life.

Ms. Edwards obtained her Master’s degree in Literacy and soon realized that college had not adequately prepared her for the real-life reading struggles her students faced. So, she was determined to find a different and more effective way to teach students and individuals with dyslexia the Science of Reading.

She trained for 12 years to become a Fellow (the highest level of Orton-Gillingham certification one can hold) from the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators. In the years following, Ms. Edwards has trained thousands of teachers from around the world in the Orton-Gillingham Approach. 99% of the trainees who opt for certification through AOGPE achieve it, and this success has led her to become an Accredited Training Fellow at the Classroom Educator, Associate, and Certified levels.

Previously, she sat on the board of directors for The Academy of Orton-Gillingham for nine years and currently serves as a private consultant for private, public, and charter schools throughout New York.

Some of the schools she works directly with are the Stephen Gaynor School in Manhattan, a school specifically for students with learning disabilities (Accredited by AOGPE and IDA) and Bridge Prep Charter School, the first public school in the United States designed for students with dyslexia and language-based learning differences. Ms. Edwards also frequently speaks at dyslexia conferences where world-recognized experts in the field of dyslexia and language-based learning disabilities and differences convene.

Under Ann Edwards’ leadership, EOG has partnered with more than 45 public schools, trained thousands of educators, and equipped teachers with the science, structure, and confidence to help every individual learn to read.

As an Accredited Plus Program through the International Dyslexia Association, we hold ourselves to the highest standards in the field of literacy education. Every course we offer is aligned with the Knowledge and Practice Standards and grounded in the Science of Reading. Our approach is explicit, systematic, and evidence-based, designed to equip educators with the expertise they need to teach reading and spelling with confidence and clarity.

We do more than deliver training, we build instructional knowledge that lasts, so that every child has access to effective, research-informed reading instruction.

Participants receive a certificate of completion, and select courses are eligible for graduate credit and/or certification through the Center for Effective Reading Instruction (CERI), the International Dyslexia Association (IDA), and the Orton-Gillingham Academy (OGA).
