What’s Covered in the Course?
This advanced training prepares experienced Level 3 Certified educators to deliver structured literacy instruction at the highest level. Building on Level 2 coursework, this course emphasizes clinical teaching, diagnostic-prescriptive lesson planning, and leadership in structured literacy implementation. Participants deepen their knowledge of the Science of Reading, intervention design, decoding and encoding, and advanced phonological and orthographic instruction, all through the lens of small group or 1:1 intervention.
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Level 2 coursework and certification is required prior to enrollment.
Topics Include
- Advanced understanding of the Orton-Gillingham Approach and structured literacy, including the underlying principles, language structure, and the Science of Reading.
- Expertise in diagnostic-prescriptive instruction, including assessment, error analysis, and designing adaptive lesson plans responsive to individual learner profiles.
- Application of research and neuroscience, with the ability to interpret neuropsychological and psychoeducational reports, integrate current Science of Reading research, and translate findings into instructional practice.
- Mastery of scope, sequence, and flowchart rationale, with confidence in designing lessons and long-term instructional plans that align with the OG sequence.
- Leadership and communication skills, including public speaking, coaching, and interpersonal development in preparation for roles as trainers, mentors, or literacy leaders.
- Comprehensive practice across the lifespan, with the ability to work effectively with children, adolescents, and adults with varied disabilities and learning needs.

What Practicum Pathways Are Available?
Please note this course has a prerequisite of Level 2 certification.
Upon successful course completion, participants may pursue:
- Structured Literacy Specialist Certification
Offered through the Center for Effective Reading Instruction (CERI)- Requires passing the KPEERI exam and completion of the EOG supervised practicum. *Additional certification fee applies
- Certified Level Certification
Offered through the Orton-Gillingham Academy. * Additional certification fee applies- Subject to acceptance into the EOG practicum program
